  • Botak Sale of book stopped over graphic sex illustrations.
The Home Ministry yesterday ordered a stop to the distribution and sale of Where Did I Come From, a book on the facts of life, following complaints that it contained graphic sex illustrations. Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohd Razdi said the decision was taken pending investigation. http://news.asiaone.com/...56_internet_book.jpg

He said in a statement that bookstores nationwide had agreed to assist the ministry by stopping the sale pending investigation under Section 7 (Subsection 1) of the Printing Press and Publishing Act 1984.

The book is likely to have been brought into Malaysia illegally.

  • Botak Dr M: No point debating with Anwar the chameleon.
It will be pointless for the Prime Minister to debate with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim because the Opposition Leader is a "chameleon", said former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"He is a chameleon. When he is with the Chinese, he condemns the NEP (New Economic Policy). When he is with the Indians, he is Indian. When he is with Muslims, he talks about Islam.

"There is nothing to debate with Anwar," he said after meeting top leaders of the Malay rights group Perkasa here yesterday.

He said Malaysians were also "not yet that mature" to deal with political debates, adding that the public still had a tendency to allow emotions to take over from rational discussion.

"This is not America but, even in the US, debates only serve to expose how stupid the candidates are," he said.

Dr Mahathir said he had no problem with debates, quickly adding, however, that it would not "lead to anything constructive".

"A debate is okay but at the end of the day, it won't come to any kind of conclusion," he said.

  • Botak Rotavirus vaccines 'only given orally'
Available rotavirus vaccines in the country are administered orally and not via injections, a consultant paediatrician clarified yesterday.

Dr Chai Pei Fan said there were two vaccines in the market, which were oral vaccines and not injections, with one requiring a course of two doses and the other, three doses.

He was referring to an erroneous report in a Malay daily that claimed anti-rotavirus vaccination jabs were available at private hospitals.
"Vaccination is an effective method to prevent the infection of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) but this vaccine is only recommended for infants from the age of 6 weeks to 8 months old. "It is pointless for parents to send their older children for vaccination." http://news.asiaone.com/...4642_oralvaccine.jpg

  • Botak Islam and democracy can co-exist, says Anwar Ibrahim's daughter.
“We are not dealing with just any government,” Mrs Nurul Izzah recalled. “We are dealing with a Malaysian government that’s so afraid of losing power. They were so brutal in cracking down on dissent. It was crazy. I was myself manhandled and almost arrested and I’m a member of parliament.”http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/8162/nurulizzzah.jpg
